Igor Sobkowicz
Igor started his career in solar as an R&D engineer for Total SA/SunPower. He successfully optimized HIT solar cell architectures to reach higher efficiencies. He became increasingly curious about PV system and BOS designs. He left France for California in 2015 and prepared his first layouts and SLDs for Cupertino Electric.
Apart from designing commercial and utility-scale PV systems, Igor also drove the team’s production modeling efforts. He later joined Borrego, where he oversaw the engineering design process. This required developing an understanding of civil, structural, and electrical scopes, and building relationships with vendors and subcontractors. He also became a licensed electrical engineer.
More recently, Igor worked on utility-scale projects for AES Corp. and Blymyer Engineers as a Development Engineer and Electrical Engineer. Igor holds a double MSc degree in chemistry and physics from AGH-UST and Ecole Polytechnique, as well as a PhD in Physics from the latter.
